Camp Morning Wood; The Clothing Optional Resort
Palm Springs audiences are getting a bold dose of laughter, music, and unapologetic queer camp this season as Camp Morning Wood lights up the stage at Prism Theater’s temporary cabaret-style venue. Running through March 22, 2026, the musical comedy embraces humor, nudity, and larger-than-life personalities in a production clearly designed for audiences ready to laugh at themselves and celebrate queer culture in all its forms.
Conceived by Marc Eardley with book and lyrics by Jay Falzone, Camp Morning Wood leans fully into its playful premise. The show delivers cheeky songs, obvious-but-effective jokes, and a cast of characters representing a wide range of gay subcultures, from twinks and bears to academics, dancers, and closeted politicians. The result is a fast-moving, adult-only theatrical experience that audiences have enthusiastically embraced.
Standout performances include Barrett D. Carroll as the hilariously conflicted Senator Snatch, whose strong vocals and sharp comic timing make him a highlight of the evening. Chad Heffelfinger leads as Randy, a shy academic navigating grief, hookups, and self-discovery at the camp, while Jeffrey A. Johns brings high-energy charm as Derek, the twink determined to help Randy loosen up. Prince Alex adds flair as a go-go dancer convinced he channels Cher, and E. Talley II earns crowd reactions during a memorable musical number that blends satire with spectacle.
Director Lance Phillips keeps the show moving with playful choreography and carefully staged “peek-a-boo” moments that balance humor and nudity without tipping into strip-club territory. Even the scene changes become part of the entertainment, with one particularly memorable stagehand drawing unexpected applause from the audience.
Presented in a cabaret-style setup complete with tables and specialty cocktails, the production creates an intimate atmosphere that feels perfectly suited to Palm Springs’ vibrant, mature theater crowd. The show celebrates community, self-expression, and the joy of not taking ourselves too seriously.
Camp Morning Wood runs January 23 through March 22, 2026, at Prism Theater’s temporary location at 4707 Events, 4707 E. Sunny Dunes Rd., Palm Springs, CA.
