Boosting Revenue - The Decision
In the last newsletter, I shared something very real: I need to find a sustainable way to boost revenue for the magazine and, frankly, for myself. I floated a few ideas, and many of you wrote back with thoughtful, honest feedback. That exchange gave me the pause I needed to reflect on what actually aligns with the spirit of GoNaked.
Here’s where I landed.
Selling the magazine?
No. Not now. I’m still enjoying this work far too much, and if that day ever comes, it would have to be sold to someone who values this community as deeply as I do. Profit can never come before people here. I also learned a hard lesson with Kilted Bros. I essentially gave that business away, never made a dime, and watched the brand limp along as the quality suffered. I won’t repeat that mistake.
Raising subscription prices?
Maybe in a different economy. But right now, people are canceling $29 annual subscriptions because money is tight. I’m a terrible capitalist, I know, but I care more about people keeping food on the table than squeezing an extra few dollars out of them.
OnlyFans?
Only one of you suggested it. Message received. Loud and clear.
Big corporate sponsors?
Several of you floated ideas like “GoNaked Events sponsored by Atlantis” or “Health advice brought to you by Moderna.” Respectfully, no thank you. One of the reasons I love doing GoNaked is because I don’t answer to boards, shareholders, or corporate interests. I left corporate America for a reason, and I’m not interested in crawling back just to lose creative control.
That leaves me with the Tip Jar concept.
Yes, it puts me in a bit of a Blanche DuBois position, relying on the kindness of strangers. But I also believe many of you recognize the work that goes into this magazine, the honesty behind it, and the personal perspective I bring to it. If you find value here and are able to contribute, this feels like the most aligned way to do it.
I'll be using "Buy Me A Coffee" as the platform. A simple click takes you to that page to donate a $1, $5, or whatever feels good. I'm not looking for charity. I'm looking for recognition of my work. If you feel move to and are able to, that is where you'll show your appreciation.
I’m also considering Sponsored Software as a transparent option. If someone chooses to sponsor the cost of a specific tool for a month or a year, those funds would go directly toward the operational expenses of the magazine. And if you’d like recognition for your generosity, I’d be honored to create a Wall of Fame to thank our supporters.
However you support GoNaked, please know this: if contributing financially isn’t possible, that’s okay. You can still support the magazine by purchasing individual issues, sending in your photos and stories, and sharing GoNaked with others who might need it. Community is built in many ways, and every one of them matters.
Thank you for reading, for responding, and for helping me shape what comes next. I don’t take any of it lightly.
