Apple’s Biggest Week of 2026: Touchscreen MacBooks, M6 Macs, OLED iPad Mini, and More

Sunday Tech Corner | November 1, 2026

Apple had quite a week, announcing several new products and software improvements that could change how we use our Macs and iPads. While some announcements were expected processor upgrades, others represented significant changes in Apple’s approach to computing.

The biggest surprise was Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook Pro. Apple also introduced the M6 processor, updated the iMac, redesigned the iPad mini with an OLED display, and announced improvements to Apple Creator Studio.

As someone who spends considerable time working with technology, I found several announcements exciting. However, I also have questions about Apple’s pricing and whether some upgrades are necessary for everyday users.

Apple Finally Introduces a Touchscreen MacBook Pro

For years, I’ve wondered why Apple refused to introduce touchscreen capabilities on the MacBook, especially when Windows laptops have offered them for so long. Well, that’s finally changing!

Apple introduced its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models featuring the PROLED XDR touchscreen display. Using tandem OLED technology, these displays deliver deeper blacks, improved contrast, and exceptional brightness, reaching up to 2,000 nits with refresh rates up to 120Hz.

Users can now scroll through websites, pinch to zoom, manipulate windows, and interact directly with supported applications. Creative applications such as Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Pixelmator Pro can also take advantage of touch.

Personally, I think this is a welcome improvement, particularly for photo and video editing. However, reaching across a keyboard to touch a screen isn’t always comfortable, so I don’t see touch replacing the traditional trackpad or mouse.

Another interesting addition is Dynamic Island, bringing an iPhone feature to the Mac for notifications, Live Activities, Spotlight, and Siri AI.

The new MacBook Pro also features Thunderbolt 5, Wi-Fi 7, up to 24 hours of battery life, and configurations offering up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. Interestingly, these models use Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors rather than the newer M6.

Pricing starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch model.

The New M6 MacBook Pro

Apple also introduced an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring its new M6 processor.

Unlike the touchscreen models, this version maintains the traditional Liquid Retina XDR display. However, it delivers improved performance with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, faster AI processing, Wi-Fi 7, and up to 24 hours of battery life.

Starting at $1,999, I think this will be the more practical choice for many users.

If you’re still using an Intel-based MacBook or an older M1 model, the improvements could make upgrading worthwhile. However, if you already own an M4 or M5 MacBook Pro that’s running well, I wouldn’t rush to replace it.

The iMac Gets the M6 Treatment

Apple updated its colorful 24-inch iMac with the new M6 processor, improved graphics performance, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, faster storage, and optional 2.5-gigabit Ethernet.

The iMac continues to feature its attractive 4.5K Retina display and all-in-one design, with pricing starting at $1,499.

I’ve always liked the iMac for homes and offices because everything is built into one elegant package. However, my biggest criticism remains that the computer and display are combined. When the computer becomes outdated, you generally end up replacing the display as well.

For someone using an older Intel iMac, this could be an excellent upgrade. But if you already have a newer Apple silicon iMac, there’s probably little reason to replace it immediately.

The iPad Mini Finally Gets OLED

Another announcement that caught my attention was the redesigned iPad mini.

Apple increased the display to 8.5 inches and introduced OLED technology, delivering better contrast, deeper blacks, and improved brightness.

The new iPad mini also features the A20 Pro processor, Apple Pencil Pro support, Wi-Fi 7, improved speakers, and a landscape-oriented 12-megapixel Center Stage camera.

One particularly welcome addition is IP67 water and dust resistance, providing additional protection for a device frequently used while traveling.

The iPad mini starts at $699 for Wi-Fi and $849 for cellular.

I love the compact design, especially for reading, traveling, and watching videos. However, $699 is expensive for a smaller tablet. If multitasking or productivity is your priority, I would compare it with Apple’s larger iPad models before purchasing.

Apple Creator Studio Gets Smarter

As someone who creates technology videos and digital content, I found Apple’s Creator Studio announcements particularly interesting.

Final Cut Pro is gaining integrated MotionVFX effects, templates, and professional graphics, along with additional stock footage through Apple’s Content Hub.

Pixelmator Pro is introducing Generate Fill, allowing users to modify selected portions of images using text descriptions. Logic Pro is receiving improved audio separation tools and AI-assisted music creation features.

Apple is also bringing more AI capabilities to Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, helping users create presentations, improve documents, and analyze spreadsheets.

Another interesting development is support for the Model Context Protocol, which could allow compatible external AI tools to interact with Apple’s productivity applications.

Apple Creator Studio costs $12.99 monthly or $129 annually, with the new features arriving in November.

I think these improvements have considerable potential, especially for content creators. However, I’ll be interested to see how reliable the AI features are in everyday use.

Siri AI and macOS 27

Artificial intelligence was another major theme throughout Apple’s announcements.

macOS 27 introduces enhanced Siri AI capabilities, including more natural conversations, better integration with applications, and the ability to work with personal information and on-screen content.

Apple has also refined its Liquid Glass interface, giving users more control over its appearance.

I think Apple’s AI strategy has potential, but I want to see these features work consistently outside carefully prepared demonstrations. What matters most isn’t how impressive AI looks but whether it genuinely makes everyday tasks easier.

My Final Thoughts: Should You Upgrade?

So the question should you guy the MacBook Pro Touch. I would day if you Mac is 5 years or older I would say if you want to go ahead and get one. I have used touch screen laptops and really notice I do not use it until it’s something that Lenovo Yoga or the Surface where you can use the device as a tablet with a pen.

The M6 MacBook Pro and iMac look like excellent options for people using older computers, while the OLED iPad mini offers some compelling improvements despite its higher price.

The think that I’m most excited about was Apple Creator Studio’s new capabilities, particularly the improvements to Final Cut Pro.

However, my advice remains the same: Just because Apple releases something new doesn’t mean you need to replace what you already own.

If your current computer works well, continue to receive security updates, and meets your needs, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it. Technology should make your life easier, not simply encourage you to spend more money.

Preorders began October 28, with the new hardware scheduled to become available November 6.
