A Room Opened Up for Day of the Dead. And It Won’t Stay Open Long.
We just had a cancellation for our Day of the Dead retreat in San Miguel de Allende, which means one king room has suddenly opened back up for the trip.
There’s a reason people obsess over Día de Muertos in San Miguel.
It’s not touristy in the way people think.
It’s emotional.
Beautiful.
A little haunting.
A little romantic.
The whole city glows.
Candles flicker in the cemeteries.
Families gather around altars covered in marigolds and photographs.
Skeletons dance through the streets while church bells echo through the night air.
You’ll see people laughing one moment and quietly crying the next.
It’s one of the only celebrations I’ve ever experienced that truly understands something most of us spend our whole lives trying to avoid:
Life is temporary.
So maybe we should actually LIVE it while we’re here.

And somehow… that energy changes people.
This isn’t just a sightseeing trip.
It becomes personal.
The conversations get deeper.
The walls come down faster.
People start talking about the people they’ve lost, the lives they almost lived, the dreams they still haven’t chased yet.
And in the middle of all that?
You’re sitting in one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico with a small group of genuinely wonderful men, eating incredible food, wandering cobblestone streets, sipping cocktails on rooftops, laughing until your stomach hurts, and realizing maybe it’s not too late to become more alive again.
That’s what this trip really is.
Not just Día de Muertos.
A reminder.
A reminder that joy and grief can sit at the same table.
That beauty doesn’t disappear because we age.
That chosen family matters.
That there are still new memories waiting for you if you stop talking yourself out of them.
And now?
One room has opened back up.
If you’ve been sitting on the fence about this trip, I would not sit there much longer.
Because once this room is gone, that’s probably it.
