Good News! Your Husband Is Subscribed to A Men's Nudist Magazine
Why GoNaked Shows Up as “Good News”
I received a delightful email from Jeff the other day. He spotted a charge from Good News Magazine on his credit card, didn’t recognize it, and promptly disputed it with his bank.
A little while later, the penny—and perhaps a few other things—dropped.
It was his renewal for GoNaked Magazine.
You may have wondered why your own subscription appears as Good News Magazine instead of GoNaked Magazine. There are two reasons.
First, the word naked tends to make some credit card processors clutch their pearls. We may see it as natural, joyful, and liberating, but financial institutions occasionally react as though we’re operating an international den of iniquity.
Second, over the years, I heard from quite a few straight and married men who wanted to subscribe but weren’t comfortable having GoNaked Magazine displayed on a shared credit card statement. Some weren’t ready to explain their interest in nudism. Others simply wanted this to remain one private little corner of their lives.
And you know what? I’m okay with that.
GNM became Good News Magazine, and the more I think about it, the more appropriate the name seems. We do spread good news. We celebrate men, bodies, friendship, freedom, travel, laughter, and the wonderful realization that life can become much more comfortable once you stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.
Of course, I hope we eventually reach a world where nobody feels embarrassed about enjoying nudism—or fears being judged for it. But until then, if calling ourselves Good News Magazine gives someone the privacy and freedom to enjoy this small part of himself that he can’t yet share with others, I’m perfectly happy to provide that cover.
So, gentlemen, if Good News Magazine suddenly appears on your credit card statement, don’t panic and call the fraud department.
It’s just us—still naked, still spreading the good news.
