Naked Men Drawing Naked Men? This Birmingham Group Is Turning Art Class Into Community

What happens when you combine life drawing, social nudity, and a room full of curious men?

Apparently… something pretty wonderful.

A group in Birmingham, England is hosting exactly that: a monthly gathering called Bare Naked Artists: Naked Men Drawing Naked Men — and yes, the title is exactly what it sounds like.

Hosted by Hang Out Naked Midlands, this isn’t your stereotypical silent art class full of intimidating easels and tortured expressions. It’s designed primarily for GBTQ+ men and invites participants to explore creativity, connection, and body confidence in a clothing-optional environment where not only the model may be nude… but the artists can be too.

Before anyone starts worrying about whether they can draw: you absolutely do not need to be an artist.

That might actually be the best part.

The organizers describe it less as a class and more as a guided communal experience. There’s artist support available, materials are provided, and the goal seems refreshingly simple: show up, try something different, meet people, and maybe discover a new hobby.

Or discover you secretly have opinions about charcoal.

The event takes place in a private room at Missing Bar in Birmingham and keeps numbers intentionally small — around seventeen people — which makes it feel more like a gathering than an anonymous workshop.

And honestly? There’s something quietly powerful about this format.

Life drawing has always asked us to slow down and really look at the human body. Strip away the performance, the posing, the perfection. Add social nudity into the mix and it becomes less about being observed and more about simply existing.

That’s a different energy.

For men especially, spaces that encourage creativity without competition can feel surprisingly rare. You don’t have to be athletic. You don’t have to be conventionally attractive. You don’t even have to be good at drawing.

You just show up.

Paper. Pencil. Body. Conversation.

Done.

And who knows — maybe next month you end up on the stand instead of behind the sketchpad.
